The Start:

All of our new adventurers will start in the small city of Cliffside, just south of the Maze Mountains. Cliffside has been under siege for three days by the Orc Horde from the distant north. It has been determined that the Orcs travelled under cover of night and came through the Dreadwood and then the Maze Mountains to avoid detection. Historically it would have seemed impossible for the Orcs to work with such organization but something has changed in recent years.

The siege has sporadic ebbs and flows as it does not seem that the Orcs are willing to sacrifice large numbers to take Cliffside. They also must concern themselves with armies from Belcar to their western flank. Little do the Orcs know that the Baron Hamilton Jovus of Belcar has refused to come to the aid of the southern tip of Laramis until the Baron Edward Stanton agrees to concessions. This is a long standing dispute however and it is likely that Lord Hamilton would give in once he finds out that it is Orcs that are attacking.

Reinforcements from the south are expected within a couple of days. Cliffside is built for war as are all cities in Laramis so the defenses are sound. They do not have adequate forces to go on the offensive however. There are roughly 5,000 able bodied men available for her defense, most of which are battle hardened.

Scouts report that the Orcs number in the 20,000 range and include some Ogres and even a few giants.
It is not overly important how or why you are in Cliffside. You could have been raised here, could be travelling through or maybe you even saw the Orcs and came to tell the city guard. It is important however that you are involved in some degree in defending the city. Manning the walls, providing support , whatever. You have been in the city for no less than the three days since the siege started.

It is not necessary that you all know each other although it is quite possible. One person you all are familiar with is Wallace Hastlen. Wallace is the local captain of the guard and has that ex-adventurer look about him. He is very organized and smart and although he is a tough man he is at the same time likeable. Don't go beyond this point as I will take it from here on the first night.

The rest of the your history is up to you….
